typical freaks- PinInsta

Typical freaks is a bold, colourful and conceptual street wear brand from london. Designed by central saint martins ma graduate (2012). Seun ade-onojobi and london college of fashion womenswear graduate (2008) sonia xiao, the brand aims to provide an eccentric statement on fashion, full of humour, craftsmanship and integrity.

Many of the items are either printed or painted by hand, derived from such diverse thematic starting points as vintage packaging to the nostalgia of children’s books. Despite the youthful approach to much of the work, the garments are often imbued with a mature sensitivity and dark, punky undertones.

The two designers begun by making and customizing footwear and jewellery as a side project while studying together on the BA Fashion Design Technology course at London College. Focusing on colour and pattern, the two were prominent designers in the underground Nu-rave scene during the mid-2000s.

Their most recent collection took inspiration from vintage packaging after a visit to the Packaging Museum in London. Combining a sports-luxe feel with textured graphic prints and freehand colourful dyeing techniques, the pieces were all unique and individual onto themselves. The numerous processes and techniques involved in their production, was also influenced by their critique on the contrast between many modern and old packages – their greater use of handmade processes, individuality and colour.

Ultimately, Typical Freaks is about catering to those who wish to be seen, who enjoy the confidence our clothes bring to them when being worn. Our customers revel in wearing an item that comes with a story and is beautifully designed with love and integrity.

The combination of our four designers chosen from countries as diverse as China and Iceland promises to be our most exciting season ever,
Martyn Roberts
